Review of Aiken, South Carolina

Star Rating - 2/1/2017
Recommend that if you are considering moving to Aiken you spend a few weeks here, if possible in the Summer. It is hot as hell. The Summer is long , there is barely any Spring or Winter.
Not a particularly exciting place and not for young people. In fact can be down right boring.Housing costs are good , but food prices are just as high as anywhere else. There are really not many nice day trips to make within a short ride. Once you get here you will know you have made a mistake.
I feel many people who live here regret it , but would do not admit it. If your into horses Aiken can be a great place to Winter them over, with plenty of equestrian activities. Aiken is okay, just not for everyone. Only giving it one star to be kind. Been here one year and am moving. Sorry for the poor review. Just my "fix on the place".

We have been here a little over a year and truly love Aiken. It took a bit of adjusting, but we are acclimated to the climate now and love the area. Aiken is centrally located within close proximity to numerous interesting places. A day trip to Columbia or Augusta, Georgia is an hour away at best. In a little over two hours we can be in Charleston or sitting on the beaches of Sullivan's Island. We love the small, town friendly feel of Aiken so for us it is a great place to work, live and retire. We do not have small children anymore so I cannot speak to the quality of the schools. The people are very friendly here as well and there seems to be a lot of community activities available. Aiken itself has much to offer in the way of history, beautiful places of course the gorgeous horses and so much more. We are big animal lovers and Aiken is very pet friendly. That is a huge plus for us. Everyone has a different experience, but for us, we love it.
