Review of Columb,

Charm and Quality of Life
Star Rating - 2/11/2016
I was disturbed when I say old comments on this page. I recently moved to Columbia, TN. I saw associations with crime and other things that do not reflect what is by far the friendliest place I have ever lived, and the most charming.

The Mule Capital of the World, Columbia draws this distinction given the city's long history with agriculture, incorporated in 1817 though planned and legally described along with Maury County when the county was incorporated, which Columbia is the county seat, in 1807.

The city has a long and rich history that includes more noteworthy people than anywhere I've ever lived or been associated with, perhaps the most notable and recognized, President James K. Polk. Polk was raised in the City and his ancestral home as well as neighboring homes of siblings stand today open to the public as a museum. The Polk Ancestral Home and Museum is actually the only standing residence of the 11th President of the United States other than the White House.

The city includes four historic overlay districts downtown, three residential and a rich Historic Commerical District that continues to grow. Combined with historic preservation initiatives underway by the city and county, with assistance from the state, the city has a top shelf historic courthouse square, speciality retail, restaurants, artisans, and even a noteworthy night life and local arts and music scene that makes the city authentic and a destination to be sure.

Having moved to Columbia to take a position with the city, I not only competed for and ultimately a great job, but by design, relocated my family to the Best Small City in Tennessee and the region.

Bottom liners: crime continues to go down as it has since before I ever arrived. The city's unemployment rate continues to drop as economic development by the city and partners work to ensure that Columbia is competitive in pursuing, attracting and retaining high quality private investment across numerous industries. The city is home to numerous different types of commerce and industries, and like the laudable increase in private sector businesses, new jobs, and retail sales citywide, the city is investing in numerous quality of life amenities to continue to impressive growth in public investment and ultimately the city's ongoing commitment to enhancing the lives of citizens, opportunities for existed and new business, and providing an attractive destination locale for visitors who come for the shopping, culture and recreational amenities - public and private - that Columbia, TN offers on an increasingly high level.

This was a great place to before I arrived and in large part the reason I brought my family here, a place where my wife and I are grateful and pleased to raise a son. We have found a city with roots as deep as can be found in this part of the nation and that as the city has done throughout its history, continues to work and make progressive strides towards ongoing improvement and commitment to the people who live here and make Columbia such a unique and charming place to live, work and play!
