Review of Phoenix, Arizona

highly overrated and a bad place to live
Star Rating - 2/10/2010
I have been in Phoenix since 2005, when I moved from Michigan, and its one of the worst places I've lived. TERRIBLE education standards no higher than Dr. Suess that the lawmakers care nothing about. There seems to be a Wild West culture of lawlessness and disrespect and people doing whatever they want, even though violent crime is decreasing. The people are downright mean arrogant, passive and 'stand-offish.' The women are materialistic and shallow. The people dont know how to drive (dont know why as PHX is an easy city to drive in anywhere). A gang problem. An overly-riced housing market that doesnt reflect incomes in the area (but it has improved). Terrible foreclosure problem. Terrible air pollution in the summer. Oppressive heat. The water tastes like garbage and you have to drink botteled water. The sun quickly fades your car. Illegal immigrants everywhere, but they are returning as the jobs have left. NO JOBS IN ANYTHING (the highest job loss rate per-capita in the country) and the worst job market in the country. The only jobs avialable are minimum wage jobs in tourism/hospitality and retail. Bad roads that are never repaired. I almost cant think of one good thing about this place. Highly overrated as a place to live. Dont raise your kids here; it isnt the Midwest. Stay away if you can.

You are originally from Michigan and you are saying that Phoenix has the worst job market and highest jobless rate in the country? Detroit has the highest unemployment rate and virtually no jobs!! I realize that Phoenix probably had a point where the economy was in a deep hole....but not as deep as the Detroit tri-county area. It will most likely be 2015 before Detroit sees any true sign of economical rebound. The crime is high here and I know it is high there too. There is at least one homocide everyday here. I know the drug problem is an issue there. It's really only an issue if you are part of it. My wife and I are moving to the Tempe area in late August or September. I have found so many more jobs there than here. It is hard to get an interview there when you live in a different state on the other side of the U.S. We both have a positive outlook about living there. As far as weather goes...3 months out of the year there the heat is as you said oppressive (at least its not humid to the point where the easiest task makes you drip sweat), the other 8 or 9 months, the weather is perfect!! I'll take that any day over 7 or 8 months of cold, grey, depressing weather!!

OH MY GOSH. really people? If you really hate your own home then why dont you just move somewhere else? And Phoenix,AZ is not "ghetto". That is a word that is being used way to commonly. A ghetto is A usually poor section of a city inhabited primarily by people of the same race, religion, or social background, often because of DISCRIMINATION. WOW. Um where else are lower class people supposed to live anyways? Its not always their fault that SOME parts of Phoenix are this way. And the government can do something about this problem anyway. And don't forget that EVERY city has the same problems as Phoenix,AZ does. the "ghetto" ones anways... and your crime there isnt as bad as where I live. which is in GA. search for Georgia on here and look up the crime and then compare it to Phoenix.we have a 8-9 rating of crime while you have all 6's. BIG difference right there. and im not trying to diss my home but at least the gov. is trying to do something about it. andalso the community is too.
