Review of Springfield, Louisiana

Springfield - My Tribute
Star Rating - 7/26/2009
I have lived here for 44 years. Well, I left a few years for college and work for some in-between time, but my roots were established here 44 years ago. This is a quaint and quiet place with nice, not-nosy neighbors who don't report you if you burn your trash or have a horse or goats in your yard. Some of us are educated, some of us are not. Who gives a care? We love each other here. I hope I am not persuading you to move here. You would probably be bored. But, residents love it here - with the artesian wells, mossy oaks, lots of ghostly legends and history. Springfield has three rivers that meet. It used to have a university, booming logging business, and court house. Transportation changed everything. The railroads were built seven to ten miles north, and the rivers were not longer as necessary for the economy. Then the interstates were built five to seven miles north and east of here. In order words, our village is really like a ghost town in more ways that one. But, we love it! We love visitors, but there is not much for sale here.
Our favorite store is The Pig (Piggly Wiggly).. and this grocery store supports the successful football in a way that most places would think is weird. You can take the girl out of Springfield, but you can't take Springfield out of the heart of the girl! Thanks for allowing me to say my thoughts. Six generations of Sibleys are buried on the famous Indian Mound of the famous Springfield Cemetery. My great-grandparents, my grandparents, all but 1 aunt and 1 uncle (there were 12 kids), my parents, many cousins, my child, and some babies of my nieces and nephews. My strong roots give me wings to fly. Kitty Sibley-Morrison July 27, 2009.
