Review of Humble, Texas

NIce, cheap and quiet
Star Rating - 5/11/2007
I don;t live in Humble. I live next door in Kingwood, but it's not listed.

I love Kingwood and have for 21 years. Lots of trees (the livable forest is its nick name) and it has great schools, lot's to do (the Kingwood College Orchestra is at the Montreau Jazz Fest this year), and near Houston, the greatest cultural secret in the US.

I live in a $260,000 home that would cost over $1,000,000 in Boston, NY, LA, or even Nashua NH.

We have the cheapest gasoline because we make it here. We are near the beach, 600 miles of coast, and have hills and lakes within two hours of us.

Medical care is the best in the US with St Lukes, MD Anderson, Texas Childrens and The Galveston Burn Center.

We have the 2nd highest number of theater seats in the US after NYC and many Broadway shows run here first. Tyhe Opera is 2nd to none and our Museums feature many exclusives you do not see in places like Boston or LA.

Our Universities rival those of any other US city.

We have the largest concentration of engineering firms in the world and Houstonians have built the world and reached the moon and stars.

Stay away though, we don't want you bringing us your problems. If you come here, learn our way or go away.

I also live in the Kingwood area and have mixed feelings about John's comment. Everything about this area he mentioned is true. What is also true is that there is a general warmth and hospitality in Texas that many times is not seen elsewhere. In California you may be received warmly if you are "west wing" and in New York you are welcome, well, if you are from New York. John is saying he doesn't want people bringing the "cold" from other places and changing the human "climate" here. Having said that, his last comment doesn't exactly demonstrate Texan hospitality. It must be noted that any large city or metropolitan area develops a certain coldness due to crime and large city problems (like welfare moochers).

My family and I currently live in California and are considering a move to Texas for economic reasons. It's the last two sentences of this post that bothers me, and I have seen this same mentality from people in Texas many times. I find your assumption that new residents would automatically bringing you our problems insulting. And, what exactly is "your way"? The belief that someone who is not a native of a certain area is not welcome there makes no sense at all to me. There are cities and towns all over the US that have wonderful qualities. There are also PEOPLE in cities and towns all over the US who have wonderful qualities. With a welcome like yours, John, don't worry; of you are an example of the mentality of people living in Kingwood, my family and I will have no problem staying away.

Iam curious why your crime rate is 7 for violent and 8 for personal. I can,t seem to get an answer on this. I am moving from a place with a 1 crime rate, what should I be aware of?
