If You Like Small Town Life This Place Is for You!
Star Rating - 7/22/2007
But, if you want to live in a progressive city, this is not it! Many attempts are under way to make it so, but no one person or employers seem to think about making things. Agriculture is still king, with a smattering of social service types of jobs, but the povery industry appears to keep the town afloat. Real estate is selling well with out of town investors interested in land, not people. No traffic jams here, but no really good public transportation either. Be prepared to be part of a town clique or not as you choose. Hasn't small town life always been like this?

Pretty much. I grew up in Yakima, moved to Seattle for 10 years, then moved back to Yakima to go back to college for cheap (compared to Seattle). The cost of living is better here than in Seattle, but the crime is much worse. Plus, there's no culture, nothing to do, and the place is full of racist, homophobic, very conservative people. I wouldn't complain about the Mexicans because I don't think they're the problem. But this town has nothing going for it. Do not move here if you're even the least bit liberal or open minded, if you don't like the extreme heat or cold, or if you are looking for a city that is beautiful and thriving. This is not that place!
