Had to laugh reading your review. I've been in Portland, OR, for about 32 years and before that lived in Minnesota. I check weather from all over the country on a regular basis and when I hear doom and gloom I wonder how many of the people saying that have lived in the Pacific Northwest?
Yes. we do have a temperate climate, although I am at 1000 feet and most winters we have at least a little snow. But cloudy and gloomy? I think we saw some sunshine about seven days ago. Instead of anecdotal information I like to use actual NWS weather data. It is what actually happens. On a dreary January day Indianapolis has a 42% chance of not seeing the sun at all during the day. Portland has a 76% chance of not seeing the sun. We go from dreary and moist to desert dry in the summer - this past summer we got .3" of rain in a 10-week period - and in August we have a 60% chance of not seeing a cloudy in the sky. You might like that, but I love some clouds to give the sky character. On the other hand, Indianapolis can help on the water bills by having a 45% chance of a clear sky and providing a bit more than 3" of rain.
But I am fully aware that once you turn full-blown Debbie Downer on a place it really gets you down. I am that way now about Portland, and even though my wife is a local native we are considering a move out of this political basketcase. And very selective areas of Indianapolis are being considered, along with about 10 other places. But as we all know, the grass is always greener.... But in this case I would venture to say your grass is greener than ours come August.
