Relocated to Boise in 2016. Here are my impressions. Climate is moderate. Summer is very warm to hot. Cools down at night. We like the dry heat! Winter can be cold. However, very little wind in Boise and when the sun is out, it’s very nice. Traffic is good on a very good freeway system. The surface streets are very busy with many drivers exceeding the speed limits. Lots of trucks here which exceed the speed (not commercial, but personal trucks). Watch out at intersections, as red light runners are in abundance! Parks appear nicely maintained and graffiti free. Downtown is very clean and generally clear of homeless. Boise Police make their presence known and appear professional. Restaurants, that’s another story. Very mediocre food with little culinary creativity. Generally speaking. Many appear unclean and servers lack customer service skills. It’s almost like returning to the 70’s for cuisine. Housing is expensive compared to wages. Many parts of Boise are combined with trailer parks showing signs of poverty. People are very friendly and courteous. Lots of families with a huge influence of LDS. Boise has gone from a cowtown to a small metropolitan city. Strong conservative politics is a plus for us personally. However, liberalism is creeping in. City of Boise is heavily Democratic. Nice Greenbelt trail for walking and biking. Bogus is available for snow skiing. But, don’t expect Sun Valley here. Boise is growing quickly, but will it survive?
