Review of Kokomo, Indiana

For property and nature lovers
Star Rating - 6/12/2018
Kokomo is more inexpensive place to live. The rolling hills, multiple creeks, and abundance of the biggest deer, hawks, eagles and owls. It enables blue collar workers to live like doctors or lawyers. Many blue collar workers wives are able to stay home and raise their children due to the high paying jobs at Chrysler.
If you are a professional and don’t mind a 50 min. Commute to Carmel or Westfield IN, you could literally build a mansion for a great price.
There is a lot of personal freedom when you can purchase 2-20 acres of your own land.
Nature activities include hunting, fishing and hiking. One of the most beautiful reservoirs called Missisenewa is 40 min away. Peru, IN is an original circus town and is fun to visit. Other small towns have little festivals that are fun too. Driving in the country and getting lost is fun. We made friends with farmers and my daughter now is an Agribusiness major at Purdue.
The schools are excellent and more safe. Teachers are very kind, fun and knowledgeable.
There are plenty of restaurants and the downtown has improved greatly in entertainment.
Purdue University which is a top 10 school is only 45 min. away!
They have an IU of Kokomo which is a great school and Ivy Tech!

Everybody tends to know everybody because many people stay here forever because of farming passed on or just a pride in their town. I found this to be very heart warming. There is an abundance of church going people who may be a little judgemental about a few things but that is where keeping your life private is key! Many church goers will pray and help you if you are sick or down. My relationship with God grew by leaps and bounds there because of the Bobkical wisdom of many!
Of course this is not a necessity or requirement if you move here.
The Half Moon brewery has many local friends and good food too.
The Greentown Fair is super fun
Many concerts go on during the summer.
A very sad situation which was the mismanagement of Delphi and the loss of thousands of jobs during the recession hit Kokomo hard and that is why it has 4 stars.
Many people did turn to drugs after this and the northern part of Kokomo has a share of it’s addicts like other towns. We just don’t go there.
A positive is that they built the most beautiful downtown YMCA with the best pool ever and with all the volunteers, Chrysler (FCA) adding jobs it has turned around- but not all the way yet.
If a manufacturing plant would take over the old Delphi- Kokomo would be back on its feet as the original car manufacturing boom town.
I love Kokomo
