Review of Fort Collins, Colorado

Not a friendly place
Star Rating - 4/29/2009
I moved to Fort Collins, CO in September of 2008 as a job transfer. I have lived all over the southern United States and I have found CO to be one of the most unfriendly places I have ever been. It is unquestionably beautiful here, the climate is great, the views are great and there are lots of recreational things to do. But I have never in my life had such a difficult time connecting with people. They just seem to have the attitude that if you're not from here, you're not welcome. So after only a scant 8 months in the area, I've decided to move back to the South, where people are actually nice and welcome you into a community.

Fort Collins is not a friendly place...you were right to go South. I have a girlfriend who lives in Santa Fe and the atmosphere is the same.We fly to Phoenix to be together/thank you dividend miles. She has come to Pittsburgh often..but she depises the place as I do.

My family has lived in town for nearly four years now, and have discovered a number of drawbacks. Some have already pointed out the lack of friendliness (or genuine friendliness) and snootiness. I don't blame the natives or long-timers, it seems to be from the large segment of those from the north. Besides CA, most seem to be from the north, and have a strange/odd way that is not personable. Home prices continue to soar. The statistics on this page are grossly outdated. Last I heard, median prices are now officially in the upper $300K range. Realistically though, when you factor in the bidding wars, the averages are actually now in the $400k range. Traffic continues to go up, and CO seems to have big issues when it comes to expanding the infrastructure (apparently due to stupid legislation that only CO has). Jobs are becoming more scarce as the larger companies have fled, while more people are coming to town, leading to a nasty increase in competition. The town seems to only care about and promote small business. There are other factors as well, but I thought I'd just hit upon the main ones.
