Review of Roseburg, Oregon

Enjoy Roseburg
Star Rating - 8/17/2018
I grew up here, moved to Portland for seven years, and then moved back. I love the outdoors - hunting, fishing, hiking, and horseback riding. Roseburg is surrounded with natural beauty and is a perfect place to experience nature. My kids and I love living here. There are several nice parks, and we have a thriving church family.
People here actually talk to me. After living in the city being in a more friendly welcoming community has been great :)

I moved here about two years ago from California. I lived in the northern bay area for 70 years. I think it's safe to say 90% of the people have not met or don't know who their next door neighbors are. Most of the people are not happy in their jobs, feel miserable about where they live and absolutely hate the commute to work. This all relates to being unintentionally rude or short with others around them, in the stores or driving. As the population increased so did this underlying rumble of unhappiness in their situations. I myself hated to drive any where because no one seemed to have any consideration, empathy or regard for those around them. They seem to be very self centered and tunnel visioned about just getting home. I have a lot of family, church groups and friends, but I yearned to live in a place where people were not afraid to talk to each other and be sociable with each other strangers or not. California is definitely not this way. For five years my wife and I drove to Oregon and spent many weekends and holidays here looking at homes and talking to people in restaurants, stores, motels and real-estate offices. We came and visited in summer and winter alike. The people here are very sociable, will say excuse me or thank you and are considerate of others around them. Striking up a conversation with someone in a store or on the street is very easy. People are very happy to help you find a grocery item, a store, a gas station or restruant. Realtors said don't toll anyone you are from California, well I have always found it hard to lie and so I tell them yeah, we're from California and surprisingly haven't had any bad experiences with it yet, maybe because I feel moving here is a step up in quality of life. We bought a delightful home and the neighbors are nice, good people. We live about three minutes out of town and it has a great country feel and the city is only a rocks throw away. I have always loved small (hole in the wall) restruants and there are a lot of these here. I believe you can find drugs and crime every where and I think a person needs to be aware of these things and choose wisely. I like living in a community where people are warm and thoughtful offsets a lot of negatives and I don't find these things in large cities. Roseburg, to me, is a very comfortable place to live. Mr. B
