Review of Lincoln Nebra,

Lincoln what its like.
Star Rating - 7/24/2016
If your considering moving here, it's kind of like a tale of two cities. Its a nice place to visit, its pretty clean and there are opportunities. I'm a transfer and have lived here for ten years. Most things are pretty affordable compared to most places, although taxes are a bit high. The schools are ok. People from here constantly complain about the weather but in my ten years I guess I've been lucky because its been ok really considering the northern latitude. There is a good park, and library system. The city is growing and housing is affordable compared to many places.
On the flip side, the locals are strange! Its kind of like children of the corn. If you move here from elsewhere you are never really accepted. In my experience the people are very racist and small minded, they are not open to change and not at all interested in ideas from another place. As noted by other people in the reviews its a very weird place. The restaurants truly suck. There really are no stop signs in most residential areas. The police department is very bad. I work in social service and I deal directly with the LPD and Sheriffs Office daily and I have never encountered such an incompetent and corrupt force. Beware if you are poor or a minority. When you speak with them as a professional one on one its shocking what you here goes on. Nebraska football is THE primary religion here. It's very sad but kind of amusing to watch the fans get all worked up every season only to have the mighty huskers disappoint every single year. Going to the games is depressing, unless it's a beat down on some cupcake the husker faithful are all nervous and take it way too seriously. Its funny I've been here ten years through some pretty disappointing seasons yet according to husker fan they've never actually really lost a game its all the refs and the college football world conspiring against them. Ok. See above - children of the corn. Thankfully my transfer has been approved and I'm gladly moving to Illinois in three weeks. Ill look back at my time here and laugh. Finally stepping out of the Twilight Zone.

I couldn't agree more with your entire review. I too am a transplant and have been here 12 years, yet still do not feel "at home" here, which is why I am actively seeking to move west. The restaurants are ok at best but the service is absolutely horrible at nearly every place in town. The servers give off a real uppity kind of vibe. In general, the vibe here is one of competition and if you aren't into the whole "keeping up with the Jones" thing then you are on the outside. I grew up back east and let me tell you, people are a whole lot cooler east of the Mighty Mississippi river or West of the NE/CO, NE/WY state lines. Real estate taxes are astronomically disproportionate to the rest of the country.
