Review of Lemoore, California

Alive and living in Lemoore California since 1984
Star Rating - 8/2/2011
I came to Lemoore due to a job transfer in September 1984. I was 24 years old then. Much has changed over the years. There were under 13k residents...yep small town. There was Pioneer Square that housed Save Mart, Me n Eds, a drug store (like Rite Aid), a discount store (similar to Big Lots) a clothing store, a jeweler, Radio Shack (this is just Pioneer Square). WhoooHooo there was Jack in the box and 7-11. Heck, even a few stop signs!

Now that has changed. LOTS of homes for sale...market played a role in that. Now there is Kmart, Fast Food Corner (you know McDonalds, Burger King, Taco Bell, Jack in the Box, Fosters Freeze, Pizza Hut and Kentucky Fried Chicken. A few more restaurants, and now double the population. Gone are intersection stop signs, stop lights are in there place. "Old" downtown has gone through a lot of revitalization...We have a huge movie theatre...but seriously how many hair salons and massage parlors does one small town need??? I don't know who approved those business permits!

So what does that mean to you? Lemoore is still a small town. If you are a person who is looking for lots to do without driving very far, Lemoore isn't the hopping place. It is the place to raise a family, or retire to, or kick back and watch the grass grow. I feel relatively safe here (can you feel 100% safe anywhere anymore?). And you can drive to your exciting destination if need be.

Many young people will find our town boring (yep I said "Our" town, I have lived here for more than half my life now yikes). My kids certainly find life here boring. It all comes down to are you a party animal looking for that way of life that you find in the city? Or do you like for the most part, the slower pace of life with bigger cities within driving distance.

Cost of living is the only issue I have currently. I am looking at moving to a less expensive part of the USA once retirement comes around the corner...I'd rather pay $1.50 for a loaf of bread than $3.00 (example only). Oh and the summer here are super hot. Sometimes over 104 degrees. Winters are mild and foggy...fog gets worse than pea soup sometimes. I love the Spring, Late Fall and Winter here.
