Love everything but the weather!

Hinsdale is a western suburb (approximately 25 minutes drive) of Chicago. It is a beautiful upscale village (rather high taxes, I'm afraid), with lots of neighborhood parks, playgrounds, and athletic fields, classy downtown with many franchise stores (i.e. Starbucks, Gap) as well as trendy boutiques. Population is approximately 18,000, excellent schools, myriad colleges and universities in nearby suburbs and Chicago, easy access to many expressways, in-town train station with great service to Chicago, two major airports within 25 minute drive. There are "a million" things to do in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs -- everything from marvelous restaurants of all kinds, sports arenas, music venues for all types of music from rock to jazz to blues to symphony to opera . . . , many theatres, museums, cultural centers, etc. etc. So why would anyone want to leave? My only complaint is the weather! Contrary to popular belief, the winters are not all that harsh anymore. We seem to have less snow every year, which is disappointing to me as I LOVE cooler weather and snow. (It IS windy in the city of Chicago, though, which may feel harsh to many people.) Summers are humid, and seem usually to be a mixture of too-cool-for-swimming days and too-hot-to-move days! Autumn is lovely here, but too short for me. Spring: hmmm, do we even have a Spring? We often go from temps in the 30's to the 80's within a couple of days! I would like to find a place to live that still has four seasons, but is mostly DRY instead of mostly humid. And I would love some real good old-fashioned snowfall throughout the winter! Other wishes: mountains, cleaner air, darker nightime skies to see the stars (away from big cities), and quiet (away from big cities and major roadways).
