Review of Sequim, Washington

Bring your money, you will need it to live in this paradise. Home values have shot up over the past two years, homes under $300,000. Are far and few between. Don't expect to rent, if you could find five rental homes to choose from you've hit the jackpot. Water and power rates are high...water is at a premium, this area was once a desert, many homes within the city limits have rock yards due to the high cost of water. The closest shopping mall is in Silverdale, Wa. Fifty miles away. Need to fly somewhere? It's a three hour drive to SEATAC.....there are no commercial flights out of the Port Angeles airport. If you like warm weather go elsewhere...it rarely gets above sixty degrees in the summer months, last year I turned the A/C on twice. We have one movie theatre in Port Angeles, it's only open on weekends. Currently gas is over $3.00 a gallon. Our police department is excellent, we enjoy a very low crime rate, but like everywhere else it's slowly rising due to a small drug culture. It's reported that the average age is about fifty here, I think it's actually more like sixty five.....mostly senior adults, we have excellent medical coverage but it can be difficult to find a doctor. If you have a serious medical problem plan on being treated in Seattle. We are currently experiencing earthquake drills, the powers that be are telling us that we're long overdue for the big one. I've lived here for twenty three years and have never been happier, but plan to "den up" if you join us. Sequim is a happy place for certain types of people but it isn't for everyone.

Happy place for what types of people, specifically?

This IS a paradise. The NW ambiance remains here, where it has been lost in places such as Seattle, Tacoma, Bellevue, Issaquah, North Bend and all other areas saturated with crime, street people, endless traffic gridlock, and high taxation to pamper the takers instead of applauding the movers and shakers. We wave at our neighbors here, and allow folks to actually merge into what traffic we have, instead of creating road rage with the rat race me-me-me attitude. Don't come here if you disagree with values, morals and country.
