I've lived here 7 years. Understaffed police dept. 911 calls take at least an hour or more for a response so people are armed. Homeless folks sleeping all over downtown which is the deadest downtown I've ever seen in a large city. Absurd petty property crime anywhere. BUT best climate I've lived in . Food is great. Incredible diversity of restaurants. Wonderful zoo, parks, museums. Architecture is uniquely NM. Slow pace of life. Medical care sucks. Eat healthy, exercise, avoid the system as much as you're able to. So many young people killing each other for no reason, really painful for families to experience. Lots of outdoor activities. Low cost of living. Drugs everywhere. Terrible public transportation. Its a shame we have so many negatives because its an incredibly beautiful setting beside the Sandia mountains. A lot of rundown poverty stricken areas.

I know right! This is an awful city. Boring doesn't begin to describe it. I will be leaving in just a few short years thankfully. Just awful.

If Abq is the best place you've lived in 60 years, I'd sure hate to see those other places! The crime in Abq is off the charts. 8th most violent crime in the US, most in car thefts, lots of breakins, shootings, car jackings, armed robberies, rampant alcoholism and drug addiction problems, number one in property crimes, terrible schools, a police force that is STILL under judicial watch for violating people's rights (typically shooting first and asking questions later, if then), Mexican drug cartels, road rage. Yep, great place to live, for you maybe.
