Review of Comanche, Texas

Lived here my whole life
Star Rating - 11/6/2006
I am 37 and have lived here my whole life. It's a good place to live if you are retiring. It has a very warm climate most of the year. Winters are mild, if any at all. I don't remember the last time it snowed. Summers can be brutal. This summer (2006) had 45 days straight of 100+ degrees. Moderate humidity, short spring and fall. The economy is virtually non existent, not a place for younger people or families to come as there are very few jobs. The economy is agriculture based and has declined dramatically in the past few years. Land prices have sharply escalated the past 10 years, although at $2000/ac +, it is still more affordable than some places. Very remote, nearest large city (Ft.Worth/Dallas) is 100 miles away. People are conservative and fairly friendly. Good school system, there is an increasing meth problem, although that is reaching almost all locations to some degree. Terrain is moderately rolling with abundant wildlife, mostly oak & mesquite trees, several smaller streams and rivers, small lake. Quiet little country town. The town's motto is "Country living at its' best". True only if your pockets are full and don't need a decent job. All in all, a pretty good place to live, a very bad place to try to make a living.
