Chandler is not on par with nearby suburbs. It's not the best suburban area to choose here. There are some rough areas as alluded to by other reviews. What they don't tell you is how unsafe it can be in the nice areas like the one I live in right now, Ocotillo area. I was robbed in broad daylight by a man who pulled a gun on me near a local grocery store in what is supposed to be an upscale neighborhood. I understand crime can happen anywhere, but I've been hearing troubling news about how crime continues to get worse in Chandler all over, not just the bad areas. Chandler seems to be on the decline and it's abundantly clear in zip codes like 85224-85226. It brings the whole city down based on my experience living here. It's like they tried to build a good city around a bad area. There is also a lot of hidden racism too. As a white person, I've never been on the receiving end of any of that, but I know of a lot of people who make disparaging remarks about minorities especially people of Mexican descent. There have been several instances where I was directly speaking to someone or overhearing a conversation where a person would suggest not mingling with "Mexicans" or avoiding the "barrios" and other such things.
