Cost of Living for Fairport
Star Rating - 2/27/2013
I have lived in the Fairport area for nearly two years now and I can say that the cost of living varies greatly. I have little experience with real estate, but have rented for some time now. The electric for the town is extremely cheap. Some rental properties can be a bit steep depending on what kind of quality you are looking for. The cheapest location is probably the Pines of Perinton, which includes all utilities in the bill. I payed about $675 for a two bedroom townhouse. However, it is government subsidized housing and the neighborhood is a mixture of those migrating out of the city of Rochester and low income families looking to get a foothold closer to the city. It's not exactly the ideal place to raise children. Penbrooke Meadows also has decent prices for apartments in comparison to other complexes in the area. In my opinion a much nicer neighborhood than the pines. The prices are a bit higher than the pines but still lower than others (e.g. 2 bedroom townhouse for $795-$860 some utilities included). The gas prices aren't impressive, as of 2/27/13 I believe they are around $3.86/ gal on a good day. The grocery prices, however, are impressive. Wegmans, the local grocery branch, has great prices and memberships get you some significant deals. If I don't go fancy I can pay for a two adult, two child household for between $100-$120 a week. I'll give a few prices for reference:
Milk 2.19/gal.
Butter 1.99/lb
bread 2.99/2 loaves
wegmans juice 2.50/64 ounces
Club pack of hamburger 2.19/lb
Chicken drumsticks 99 cents/lb
Overall a decent area to live in.
