Review of St. Charles, Michigan

Taught there
Star Rating - 12/29/2006
I moved here from a large city, Grand Rapids, in 1972. I taught there for 32 years, retired, and now substitute and tutor. It was a culture shock at first, but I have grown to love it. I raised my children there. Being a small town everyone knows your business (and you know their's). This does have it's advantages especially when raising children. For the sportsman it is wonderful. Hunting and fishing opportunites abound. There is a nice park with a pool and a skating rink. A beautiful Rail-to-Trails begins there. There are a few shops which I try to frequent. However, we are almost equally located from Saginaw, Midland and Birch Run. The school system is good. It has a great hold on the State curriculum and works well to meeting State standards. There are drugs in the community as there is everywhere. We have our own police force and are a sub-station for the County sherrif. Basically it's a bedroom community for surrounding areas.
