Terrible city for transplants without family in the area. Minneapolis is superficially a friendly city. Very brutal winters and high taxes. I had to travel there and live temporarily because of my job to learn what "Minnesota nice" meant. I wasn't pleased. I'm used to the down-to-earth people on the east coast and the warm, welcoming people in the south. I'm sorry, I wouldn't permanently plant roots here...knowing that my child would hate me for living here. Overrated expensive housing for the weather. It's also too liberal, smug, judgemental and prejudice. It's like a city that's hiding in the shadows of Seattle or San Francisco. Come on, this is the Midwest. The city should try to pattern behind southern cities. Dating within your race or dating here at all is almost non-existent, since most people marry straight out of high school or college. Thry stay married to the same miserable spouse in the lousy marriage forever. Not a cool city at all

Maybe our tolerance for superficialness is less? Maybe we really let you think about if how you’re gonna act or be before we make a decision about if you’re qualified to be a part of our life? You obviously failed the test. So, run back home to your comfortable life. We won’t notice that you’re gone.

I will agree it is way too liberal but that’s really from the transplants and college kids. Woohoo! We are in the big 10 but... we can’t think for ourselves so we will just follow the crowd .. no one likes the truth and they never have.. I certainly didn’t like being accountable when I was a kid, I raged at the injustice of it until I sat down and reflected and was honest with myself.. the rest of the state is not blue.. if you would’ve ventured out, I’m sure your experience would’ve been much different.. like my boyfriends whose from south side and never left the metro until he met me and now he couldn’t be paid to go back..

Jennie , I totally Agree with you . As a native New Yorker Looking for a More tranquil and enriching Lifestyle . I thought Minneapolis MNN is the Place to Relocate . Mpls MNN , did not impress Crime and a a Feeling of disconect with the people and Lifestyle of Minneapolis , I Thought that Mineapolis was a friendly and Down to Earth Mid- Western City in contrast to Fast Paced Impersonal and overated city . minneapolis is a Overrated City that is bland boring , and is a Physically Unattractive city . Milwaukee Wisconsin , which was my adoped city from 1958-1973 when I had a Family Connection. Milwaukee is a True down to Earth City Not too Big not too Small Just Right . Milwaukee Wisconsin Has a Beautiful Lake Front Civic Pride culture and Recreational Beaches and Parks and a Much Beter Quality of life than new york City and MPLS Minn.

Jennie, your observations about the weather and taxes are relatively accurate. But the idea that "most people marry straight out of high school or college" is ridiculous. Barely a third of the population of Minneapolis is married at all. Those who do marry wait, on average, until their late 20's, which is very much in line with the national average. When did you live in Minneapolis, the 1950's?
