Overview on Housing ect.

I've lived in the wonderful county of Pike for the past seven years. Originally I am from Morgan County, but when I met my husband I made the move to Pikeville. Seven years ago it was easy to find housing, but over time the cost of living has increased and so has the rent. I get it really its economics but when wages have not increased its even more difficult to afford a safe place to live. We are currently living in a apartment that has 680 dollars a month for rent, that doesn't include anything but water and garbage. Now I know i know its not that bad when you look at the prices for oh lets say a flat in New York City or Los Angeles. But this is a small town in eastern Kentucky. Actually let me go back on that previous statement just a tad. My brother currently lives in Binghamton, New York. He is paying 300 dollars a month for a 1 bed room 1 bath apartment and it includes everything. A few years ago we had considered moving to Lexington, We even found a great apartment for 525 a month. It included everything and also had a pool, tanning salon, and work out room on site. Don't get me wrong I love Pikeville, I love the atmosphere, the people (some of them lol) and the beautiful scenery. I'm just confused at the lack of housing and the prices. Compared to other counties in the state and even other states for that matter, we have very little going on. There are very few jobs unless your willing to work in a mine, or have a college degree and someone is willing to step down (which they usually aren't because they cant afford to) Over all its just a really expensive place to live and your not getting much bang for your buck.
