Wilmington's Geography is one that's extremely unique. All within in a short distance, one can travel from the Mountains, to the beach, to swamp land and forrests, and back again to the city.

Wilmington's culture is extremely unique, taking on a strong Northern Influence due to the North Eastern Americans moving south. In Wilmington, you can find a wide variety of foods from many different cultures the way one would be able to in New York City.

Wilmington has a wide variety of jobs available from major industry, to pharmaceutical companies such as PPD (headquaterted Downtown Wilmington). Wilmington is also home to one of the deepest ports in the US making us the largest ammunition port in America and a busier port year by year with expansions being made.

To the largest Film Production Facility outside of California and home to the largest special effects water tower in North America!

Wilmingtons traffic is not too bad depending on time of year and rush hour peaks (8-10am 4-7pm) and is home to multiple major junctions including I-40, US-17 (Coastal Highway) and more!

I loved this post! My husband and I are considering a move towards retirement in a coastal town. Have been to Wilmington but only as a tourist at the beach. We also have two grandsons - 14 and 19 who live with us and schools are important - at least for the 14 year old. Hope to find a nice area with good schools but stay fairly close to the beach and downsize our mortgage with retirement in mind. Any thoughts on specific areas around Wilmington will be appreciated. The challenge: I want a small town, walkable area - husband wants close to beach. Trying to stay under 250K. Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback. I am originally from NJ, currently live in MA and am looking to relocate to Wilmington. I was becoming a little skeptical reading quite a few negative forums but this does help. Thanks again.

Hello. My husband & I are considering relocating to Wilmington from NJ. We are looking for a vibrant downtown where we can walk to restaurants, shopping, etc. Is there a specific area of Wilmington you would recommend? Thanks!

I work as a bartender, is it hard to find work there. I keep looking online with INDEED job search. Haven't really seen much available. Really want to move there. If anyone have any advice would greatly appreciated

Dianne, there is a wide variety of places to chose from that are all within a 15 minute drive to the beach. It's also depends on what beach you want to live by. Homes in the Carolina/Kure Beach area tend to be cheaper than homes near beaches like Wrightsville Beach and Topsail Beach. I myself live near Wrightsville Beach where I vacationed for many years before moving to Wilmington with my family. Kristin, I also moved from New Jersey. I'm originally from the Paramus area and then I lived in Morris County near Lake Hopatcong for 12 years. All of my family is from there. But don't be scared of Wilmington. After reading the posts on this page, it does have a lot of scary posts but I do not know where these people get there information from. Wilmington is great and that is why it's one of the fastest growing cities in the country! My best advice to you is to plan a trip to Wilmington and check it out for yourself! There's so much to explore but I would recommend checking out the Wrightsville Beach/Porters Neck area as well as the other beach communities nearby. Other great locations include Downtown (of course) and Midtown. Don't let this negative posts turn you away. I promise they are wrong! (P.S. I'm not a realtor just a new resident to the area who loves Wilmington in every way!)
