Every city has it's positives and negatives. Southgate's positives to name a few include relatively inexpensive housing, a decent public transportation system, no lack of basic shops, easy access to freeways and close to Detroit, a friendly but overworked police force and many neighborhoods that that have several generations staying put. I have been here over 3 years and am making plans to move. Here's why. Southgate is overrun with drug addicts. Heroin flows freely here. Where there's heroin, there's crime. And a growing gang problem. There's also choking pollution from a massive refinery, mining and heavy industrial complex. There's a big lack of green space and recreation can only be found in nearby cities. The roads are slowly being improved but time will tell if some major thoroughfares will ever be anything but bone jarring.
