Absolutely agree!!! The Irvine Company courts money in China and doesn’t care at all about American culture and quality of life in Irvine. Basically only big chain restaurants and stores here that will pay their ransom.

Paying 2600$ for an apartment is not that bad, why do you predict the Chinese population in Irvine will be 90%+, it doesn't make sense. It is just because some Chinese move in and get your work? The city planning is wise, the environment here is great, the quality education is good and the neighborhood is nice. You are a person who likes to think about the super extreme results but have you ever thought what you predict is inaccurate? For Irvine, You can buy a 2 million house here and enjoy the slow pace here, this place is definitely a place to chill after you retire, if you want to make a lot of money? Go to LA.

Sure there are a lot of Asians in Irvine but they are not ALL Chinese, mainland or otherwise. Seriously, look up the city census. There are also quite a bit of South Asians, Middle Easterners, Eastern Europeans, Southeast Asians, etc. etc. in Irvine. I feel compelled to make a rebuttal. This is a divisive and hurtful post - the OP is making some huge claims based on one or two kernels of truth, and morphed it to suit their own prejudices and anger. Are there a lot of Mainland Chinese in Irvine? Quite famously so. Still they are not even close to being the majority since 1. the majority of Irvine is white (again, refer to census data, not the ramblings of a begrudged lady) 2. the makeup of the ethnic Chinese population in the US is very diverse, complex and is not ALL Mainland Chinese. But I can't expect someone who colors the judgement of other people with their own personal prejudices to do much other than to jump to hyperbolic conclusions that fit their narrow worldview. Still though, stereotypes come from somewhere - do the Mainland Chinese drive poorly? Sometimes. It's generally because some of them have never driven before because they don't have to in China. Ones who drive tend to drive in cities. City drivers never have a good reputation (ie. New York City drivers). Also driving poorly is kind of a proud hallmark of Southern California. Do the Mainland Chinese cut in line? Sometimes. It was particularly bad a few years ago but I think they generally gotten the message. You can't expect people from other culture to immediately adapt to another culture with no transition. Do Mainland Chinese speak English poorly? Quite often, but not always. They literally just arrived in the US a few years ago. Again, this is an issue time will solve. Foreign Chinese (and other countries') students are not a problem, they will go back to their country. It's not like college towns don't have college towns problem, no matter what race, ethnicity, or culture of students that attend the university. Are there espionage in Irvine? Grey area. The Chinese government is known to operate social and cultural clubs to "encourage" "good" behavior among overseas Chinese people. They do definitely exist in Irvine. However, know that a lot of Chinese in America are not fans of the Chinese government. In fact, some come here to escape China. These clubs are instructed to monitor "dissident" Chinese people. They are a problem, but generally operate within the legal realm of the USA. Although for the extra-paranoid, a phone call to the FBI reporting any suspicious individual is always a solution. If it's suspicious enough, inform authorities, or even inform your local congressional representatives, don't post it on bestplaces.net Vietnamnese people are used as a juxtaposition to the Chinese. I see the reviewer has never been to Garden Grove, when some pho establishments are not very English fluent. It is clear that the reviewer has deep seated angst against Chinese people. The "traits" mentioned are not particularly confined to Chinese people - they are generalized immigrants traits. These are common complaints launched against Hispanic immigrants, Vietnamnese immigrants, Irish Catholics, Italians, Japanese, German immigrants if you go through the annals of America's history. Also to mention, White expatriates in East and Southeast Asia are famously stereotyped for never learning the language or acclimating to the culture of the countries they choose to reside in. Again, immigrant problems are real. They are often solvable with community effort. Racist provocations and drawing divisive, hyperbolic conclusions are unnecessary. There is some truth to the complaints about the Irvine Company. Remember this is a "master-planned" community. It was intended to be an evolved suburb, a suburb 2.0, planned almost too meticulously so. The Irvine Company does have a lot of control over the city for a private company/land developer, and it rubs a lot Irvine citizens in the wrong way, rightfully so. Again, I think time will resolve this problem. The over-planning seems rampant, but a lot of cities start of with central planning. The inhabitants, slowly over time, turn the city into their own. There are many problems in any city and Irvine is not exempt. It's not a perfect utopia and we have a lot to work on. Instead of being divisive, whiny, and telling people to move to what is not-so-subtly more White areas ("beach areas like Newport or Huntington"), I think we should strive to address real problems and not confuse deeply personal ones with the community's problems. Save the personal problems for your therapist.
