Review of Allouez, Wisconsin

Bicycling for transportation
Star Rating - 7/16/2012
The Fox River State Recreational Trail runs the length of Allouez along the Fox River, and Connects Green Bay and De Pere with towns further south. The East River Trail runs along the East River on the other side of Allouez, and friendly neighborhood streets connect the two trails in several spots. I bike all year long in the area, commuting to Ashwaubenon across the Fox River. The greater Green Bay area has made great strides in the last 30 years, and this can be a fun place to ride. The Bay Shore Bicycle Club has several hundred members, and organized recreational rides are going on all year. Some streets are, of course, nerve-wracking to ride on, but new bridges have shifted a lot of the car traffic to the Interstate 43/41 corridors. The greater Green Bay area has about 250,000 people, and all but 6 of us are nuts about football; we are in hiding, and hold secret meetings. Commuting around town is easy and fun, and is fairly flat; although hills are to be found if you need one.
