Review of South Bend, Indiana

A great city
Star Rating - 3/10/2017
South Bend is my hometown and from an insider's perspective there is much more to do in this town than people believe. Take a day trip to Chicago on the South Shore, visit the beautiful, sandy Lake Michigan shoreline and climb the dunes towering over the Lake Michigan beaches, head to Rum Village or Potato Creek for a thrilling mountain bike ride or hike, visit downtown South Bend which is now better than ever, people walking up and down the streets swarming in and out of restaurants and cafes, eat some stellar pizza in one of the greatest pizza cities in the entire United States, visit Notre Dame and get a chance to see some of the most beautiful architecture you can find in the midwest and in the entire country for that matter, take a raft down the east race waterway, take a stroll down the river walk and enjoy the beauty of the river lights, take a trip to the Morris performing arts center or the Lerner theatre only a little while east of South Bend to catch plays such as Wicked and Annie, explore Niles, Elkhart, Ann Arbor, Michigan City, Goshen, etc. which are all only a short drive from the city limits of South Bend. Take a drive around the city and you will see all that has changed, sure, this city was a ghost town after our economic decline due to much of the manufacturing industry leaving the city. But South Bend is making a turn around, and our population is actually beginning to grow by nearly 250 people per year. This is small but promising growth especially based on the fact that we were seen as a dying city up until these past few years as our population only declined. Trust me, this mid-sized rust belt city has a lot more to it than meets the eye. And people that live here are not a bunch of lazy bums who could careless about our city, our city wouldn't be where it is currently without the backing of its citizens. South Bend is an amazing city to live in and for all that it has to offer, the pricing on housing here is truly a bargain. I'm more than proud to call South Bend my hometown and would recommend that anyone give it a chance.

I want to say thank you for this detailed review. I am in Sacramento, California and looking to possibly move to South Bend for work. I needed some detailed hope that there was some sort of culture here outside of just being a college town.
