Review of Mesquite, Nevada

Looking to move to Mesquite, NV? Keep on Driving!
Star Rating - 7/8/2019
If you are considering Mesquite, NV as a nice place to live, and you like doing things other than gambling, golf or ATV’g - keep on driving!
The climate is the worst - I've lived here 4 years; last year the thermometer reached nearly 116 degrees – in June! You can't go outside in summer, not even at midnight. When the wind blows, it feels like standing in front of a massive blow dryer on high; and don't get me started on air quality - the dirt and sand, OMG! This is the DESERT, with little vegetation to keep the soil stable, so it's always in the wind. My eyes hurt all the time due to the dryness and the dirt. My head always feels swollen - there is strange pollen in the air as well. I've never in my life had allergies, but now, in Mesquite, I have them. The doctors here say that most people develop allergies within two years of moving here (it was about that for me) because of the unusual desert pollens that are in the air. Miserable! It’s the dustiest place I’ve ever lived – you dust the house, and the next day, the dust is back! Also, it smells bad when it rains in the winter (forget any rain in summer, everything is dead and brown – definitely not what I’m used to!). The places I’ve lived (Ohio, Colorado) have always smelled wonderful after a rain, but not Mesquite - it's awful! Is it the desert soil? Who knows?
There are only a few things to do other than the casinos and golf (yuk!) in Mesquite, NV. If you like the desert dirt, there is an active ATV community and lots of ATV trails in the region. You have to go out of Mesquite to see much beauty – there is Valley of Fire State Park south between Mesquite and Las Vegas. If you go north to Southern Utah, there are the wonderful places to see, such as Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks, Kolob Canyons, Slot Canyons, and many others – but again, not in Mesquite. Oh, and there is Gold Butte National Monument to the south, also between Mesquite and Las Vegas.
The health care system in Mesquite is nearly non-existent. Most doctors don’t stay more than a couple of years, and the one and only hospital closed its hospital inpatient labor and delivery and nursery services in 2018. Many, many Mesquite, NV residents travel north to St. George, Utah for healthcare services.
I could go on, but won’t - clearly, I’m desperately looking for an affordable place to move to (Colorado has gotten way too expensive!), so I’ll go NORTH! I’m checking out Idaho Falls, ID, and things are looking really good! I miss the seasons and YES, I miss snow! I miss working in the yard all summer; I miss the quiet of a winter snow storm. I miss green and rain, and fall colors. Mesquite is not the place for me.

I found the same to be true, totally boring here and horrible health care. Good luck to you.
