My husband and I just bought a condo in Kona and love it (we've been visiting for over 10 years). But I have to add we could not have done this in our 'working' years. As a retired couple, yes, it works - but as a younger working couple with a family - no way. I guess it's about timing. Even with the vog, we love it (again, as retired spouses).
