Review of Red Oak, Texas

Awful experience
Star Rating - 8/23/2009
I wouldn't recommend Red Oak as a place to live. I moved to the area from Tyler four years ago to take a job in Dallas. I did my research on areas south of Dallas and chose Red Oak because I thought that it would be a great place for my family. It wasn't. I knew that my decision was a mistake when I would greet my neighbors while out doing yard work. A few would smile back, at the most, and others just ignored me altogether. I had never experienced this type of attitude from people before. I visited many area cities -Lancaster, Waxahachie, DeSoto, Ferris, Glenn Heights, Midlothian - and was treated so poorly. The schools are overhyped and aren't as "good" as they are sometimes made out to be. I put my child in another district after two years of a truly poor educational experience in Red Oak schools.

I tried to make Red Oak work for my family, but after a while, it was too much. We sold our home at a loss, but money doesn't matter when you come home to find your wife and son crying out of shear frustration. We had to get out of this town.

Not what it used to be
The small, charming country town that I moved to 26 years ago sadly doesn't exist anymore....
