Review of Houston, Texas

Undesirable Houston
Star Rating - 4/19/2019
I have found this city to be the most disappointing city in the US. After I have lived and worked as a professional in 18 major cities in 16 different states, I have never seen a more racial city than this and I am a straight white male. White Texans hate everyone, especially Caucasian transplants who are not from Texas. The hatred and discrimination towards other races is unlike anywhere else in the US. Terribly low wages and high cost of living. The weather is the very worst in the US by far. Very unattractive city as far as scenery. 60 miles to the gulf and it too is a total cess pool from all of the oil and shipping. No way to enjoy it. Education is very poor. I love the US and have enjoyed every other place I have ever lived until here. It is a very dirty city with the worst of the worst roads, and sidewalks with the traffic being worse than LA, NYC and Boston. I would not consider Houston if I were a business or an individual and to look elsewhere. Sad to say but very true.

Say I have a group of 10 people and 2 of them are bigots. You have a group of 6 people and it is your job to stop the bigots. Now say those 10 people don't consider themselves to be 1 group, but I tell you that all 10 of them are bigots. How have I helped a group of 2 people stop a group of between 6 and 14 people?

Houston has incredible food from every country on earth, extremely cheap real estate (for now) that’s increasing at a really steady rate, a much more diversified economy than years ago. If I were a young person just starting my career, which I am not, I would move there in a heartbeat. Traffic and roads are a problem but whenever I visit they appear to be improving. There are parts of I 10 going west out of the city that have 18 lanes if you include the access road lanes. Mass transit options would be a better solution but from my time in Texas in San Antonio, Texans will not use mass transit much, if at all so it’s a chicken or the egg situation. Supply and demand usually tells you what a city is like and it’s grown faster than any of the other top 20 metro areas over the country in the last 20 years

Very, very true about almost the entire state of Texas. I lived there for many years, the things I'd hear were just atrocious. I don't care how cheap it is to live in Texas and Houston, it's not worth it.
