Review of Garner, North Carolina

Garner area or Johnston County
Star Rating - 2/21/2007
I moved here about a year ago from FL and love it. We chose Johnston County as opposed to Wake County due to the tax base and the schools. The cost of a home out here is very cheap for what you get and you also get more property (1.25 acres) as opposed to Wake County. We chose a home with an "A" elementary and middle school, Cleveland Middle and Elementary. Major stores such as Target, Best Buy, Pier One, etc are merely one exit away. I work in downtown Raleigh and it only takes me 25 minutes to get to work, museums and tons of restaurants. The weather here gives you four distinct seasons, which was what we were looking for. There are tons of places to camp and hike within a one hour drive. Large malls are within a 40 minute drive due to some traffic around those areas. The downside for living here is that there is smoking in all restaurants and I am not used to that, as I am not a smoker. This is the tabacco belt afterall. There is also a 2% tax on food, of all things. And of course there is a state income tax here in NC But you can ot beat the price for a home here.
