Review of Plainfield, New Jersey

Its Worth It
Star Rating - 11/1/2006
I and my wife moved here about 1.5 yrs ago. We are both professionals, and while we realize that Plainfield has its problems, it is not the cesspool so many think it is. This is a community trying to reclaim the grandeur it once knew, but it will take time because it can't reestablish that greatness on the implied segregation and racial tension that ripped it apart in the late 1960s. There is a new kind of community being built here, and many of its new residents seem to recognize that. This town is not a conglomeration of lower class blacks and renting latins. There are upper, middle, and lower classes of all stripes. Yes, the West end of town has its issues, but there are plans in place, and if the community works together--new and old residents alike--then Plainfield may just have its chance at renewed glory.
