A hidden gen with beauty and serenity

Ashland City is only 25 scenic miles from Nashville on Highway 12 that winds through hills and valleys along Cumberland River. It's not an interstate, thus it does not have traffic jam. Despite its small size, Ashland City has three grocery stores (Food Lion, Cash Saver, and Walmart), a handful of fast food joints (McDonald, Sonic, Pizza Hut) and a dozen or so restaurants. It even has a hospital for emergency care.
Housing is very affordable. For $35k, you can get a half-acre lot in Maple Hills subdivision. If you don't mind hilly terrain, consider the custom home subdivision Hidden Lakes Resort. For the same price, you can get an acre-lot covered with trees. Hidden Lakes has underground utilities, city water, sewer, two lakes, and hiking trails. Its building restrictions include size (minimum 1600 sq ft), and exterior (no siding). For condo lovers, Baxton offers beautiful views, fitness center, restaurant, boat dock, and lots of activities at reasonable prices (e.g., $199k for nearly 1400 sq ft).
Merely nine miles away is Pleasant View, and up-and-coming community on I24, popular with young professionals. If you don't mind driving, Clarksville is 29 miles away from downtown Ashland City.
With a telecommuting job, I have been looking for a place to build my dream home all over the United States. I want trees, hills, space, city convenience and underground utilities, but I don't want to pay an arm and a leg. This is almost a self-contradicting tall order (e.g., no subdivision lots have trees today. The most you can get is trees at the peripheral.) Yet Ashland City fits the bill. It's the best of both worlds. I can enjoy Nashville's sophistication (e.g., stores, restaurants, libraries, and Olympic size indoor pool) without paying the highway robbery home price. It is true that I won't be visiting Nashville every day. But I have Nature to enjoy.
