Review of Bullhead City, Arizona

Worst place
Star Rating - 7/19/2018
I moved here about a year ago. I have lived in many towns and cities, from Evanston Wyoming to Phoenix Arizona and places in between. Bullhead city is by far the worst I've had the unpleasure to live in. If you have kids of any age really, there is almost nothing for them to do here. The people that live here are cranky old people that try to get in your business as soon as they see you. The traffic is bad. The cleanliness of the city is bad, worse then Phoenix Arizona. The country side is a fantastic view of one type of bush (creosote), sand/dirt and rocks. With Mountains around with only rocks on them. If you happen to see a tree it's usually small. The people that do live here are not very intelligent and look like trailer trash. Why people come to this place to vacation is beyond my comprehension when there are many way way better places to vacation. If the state of Arizona had an a**hole it would be bullhead city. The shopping choices are a variety of 4 major retailers. Walmart, target, kohls, sears. Then for shopping for groceries there's smiths, Safeway, Walmart, and recently smart and final. Other then that it's all online shopping if you even have the package delivered to you. The post office here is the worst. They have delivered packages to the wrong address, lost them, and have lost outgoing mail. For an overall year of using this post office a total of 6 packages/mail have been lost. 4 being delivered 2 being outgoing. The school systems are just straight up retarded. Closed campus's and are made to wear uniforms or special t-shirts only even at public schools. There are some people here who don't even know how to read. I am by no means a rocket scientist but the people here make me feel like one. The common sense level here is almost non existent. Everything is spread out. The population is only 39,000 but to get from side of town to the next takes almost an hour depending on the traffic and time of year. Population sky rockets with dumb a** who flock here for vacation and the town goes from 39,000 to sometimes over 200,000 in the summer. The wind sucks here and if you wear contacts or have eye problems is the worst place to be. Every time I check the weather the temp is always equal or higher then that of Death Valley. So pretty if there was a hell on earth the gates start at Death Valley and bullhead city is the pit of fire. So if I could give a half star for bullhead city I would. The down town is 1 building the camber of commerce. No little downtown strip you get with normal towns with little shops or restaurants, nope the little building of chamber of commerce is the "down town". I came here due to my job but in a year I'm transferring to get out of this hell hole. If your not into casinos and a Latina ridden river system then I would highly recommend to save the self abuse and drive straight through bullhead without stopping. Don't even get gas here. It's cheap yes if you can even get a open or working pump. The boaters and RV drivers like to find the smallest gas stations and take forever at the pumps instead of having consideration for others and going 2 miles further to a bigger gas station. The consideration level here is also non existent. All you old people here can keep your P.O.S. want to be city.

We just moved here about 4 weeks ago. It's July 22, 2019. I have to disagree with you. Everyone here has been nothing but friendly and extremely helpful with everything. We ask questions and our kids who are the ages of 6,12, 16 and 19 all love it here. There are things to do, you just didn't ask and go around finding things to do for the family. I have yet to come across anyone who wants to get into our business. Everyone keeps to themselves here. The first week we were here we already had people that lives here come and help us clear out our shop garage that we had bought with our house. People are friendly here. IF you come across the way you do on here to others, then I would probably act the same way to you as well. If you moved here due to your job, why didn't you do your research BEFORE you moved? Anyway, hopefully your attitude changes because just reading your post tells us that you don't have a great attitude at all. Have a great day!

Hope you can move to somewhere you enjoy soon. I really enjoy the area around Bullhead City. Everybody in my neighborhood is friendly and waves to you. I suppose traffic is a relative thing as i have never seen traffic bad in Bullhead City but then again i have lived/worked in populated areas. I don't know much about what Matthews kids might be interested in but we enjoy all the recreational opportunities her including off-roading, target shooting, hiking, fishing, kayaking, swimming, concerts, all the special events in Laughlin, etc. the kids might enjoy the sports leagues (soccer, baseball/softball, etc.). Not sure how Matthew is able to ascertain the intelligence of a community or if people know how to read but i have a college degree from a brick and mortar university (although that doesn’t necessarily mean someone is intelligent...). I like the idea of closed campuses and school uniforms. Kids are safe and you don't get the “Mean Girls Syndrome” where those that can wear expensive name brand are mean to those that can’t/don’t. If you don't have an hour to get across town, use a car. The small businesses here appreciate the visitors. They obviously appreciate what the Bullhead City area has to offer. It is located in a river valley so it can get windy and summers are hot in the desert. No place has perfect weather (except maybe San Diego) but a Bullhead City Summer is better than a winter in many northern areas of the country where it can be sub-zero 24/7 so pick your poison. Hopefully Matthew can find work where he would like to live.

Lived in BHC from 2004-2016. The entire tristate area there, biggest problem, street drugs predominately meth, runs rampant. Also, speaking from personal experience, medical services are entirely sub standard from doctors to hospital in BHC and Fort Mohave. Believe me, doctors there "will" kill you or ruin your life. July through mid Sept., if you want to do anything outside, you'd better get it done by about 11 a.m. I had a 35k gallon pebble tech pool that in Aug. the water temp in the pool was 92 degrees for the entire month. Biggest mistake of my life was moving there due to me getting equity greedy by selling my nice home in N. CA. Also, people that are in contracting and "most" real estate people, super "dishonest". There are a few good ones but you will probably never run into them.

BHC is pretty bad. Meth and other street drugs run rampant along with a lot of "tweakers" that hang around the older section near the river. Windy, dirty city with trash blowing around a lot. Sand storms the worse in mid summers will devastate your yards and pools. Most dishonest business people in construction that hire help you don't want being on your property. Medical services the utmost pits when it comes to doctors and hospital in BHC and Fort Mohave. They will literally kill you with lack of competence.

Maybe you should move to Ca. where the taxes are high the gas is very high and houses are alot higher. The government sucks but who cares they will give you a little patch of sidewalk to live on and who no's you might even scrape up enough money to put a tent on it !!!

Matthew, I am going out on a limb and say (hope?) you must be very young. You came here for work but can't wait to get out of here. So, you took a job which requires you to live in a situation you clearly loathe. What kind of "not very intelligent" person does that? I agree with you, you aren't a rocket scientist. Everything you described, no shopping choices, nothing for young people to do, etc., is characteristic of a small town. The heat, lack of trees, etc., is characteristic of the desert. Now, here is something you seem to be in denial of: you chose to move to a small, desert town. As for the sky-rocketing population at times, mostly people from California, they see something you don't. They are tired of the rat-race, the endless shopping malls, 2-hr commutes...life here is slower, quieter, cheaper certainly, and more relaxing. The clean air and desert mountains at sunset are especially serene. But I don't think you appreciate that sort of thing. You failed to mention the REAL blight on this small, beautiful, desert town: things are less expensive here and many transients, some with drug abuse tendencies, are drawn as well. But this is a solvable issue which I, and other like-minded citizens can help alleviate. I would like to leave you with the well-known quote: Wherever you go, there you are. Rather than bashing your surroundings, why not try a different attitude? You might actually appreciate what your situation has to offer and LEARN something about yourself in the process. Or better yet, if you see a problem, why not help make it better?
