Review of Carson City, Nevada

I can't stand it
Star Rating - 1/8/2015
I've lived here my entire life. I get SO exited every time I step foot out of this city. If you love a more local community, and deserts. This is the place for you. But, if you love nature, it can get depressing. All I want is something new. Carson City makes you feel like you're on constant repeat. Everything is the same every year, everything is the same every day. There is absolutely nothing to do. We have a cinnima, and a park. That's about it. No matter where you look, you can always see sagebrush, and that's all you'll ever see. The town is colorless. The few things I like are that it's very community based, the highschool is outstanding (GO SENATORS!), and you can ask anyone who lived here, but there's a guy who marches around town all day, every day twirling a stick around. He's the town hero!! Tahoe and Reno are close, which is convenient as well.

I can't speak for what things were like in 2015. I moved to Carson in January 2016 and absolutely love it. The town is a perfect size for us. Very little traffic and tons of things to do all the time. The downtown has been and is in the process of being revitalized. There are events all the time at the Brewery Arts Center, including a free summer concert series that attracts 1500 plus people every Saturday in a fantastic outdoor setting. The Epic Rides biking event is a 4 day extravaganza every year with concerts and events surrounding a mountain bike race to Lake Tahoe and back finishing in downtown Carson. There is also a Craft Beer festival annually downtown. Reno and Lake Tahoe are short drives away. So if you are truly an outdoors person then Carson is the perfect place to be. Hiking, skiing, and snowshoeing are minutes away for year around fun.

I personally am wanting to move up there from the Phoenix, Arizona area soon. One of the charms of the city is its friendliness and size. Although small, and yes it does seem routine at times, I do find quite a bit to do. Size does not always equate to fun and excitement. Phoenix is now the 5th largest city in the U.S. but also can be boring with routine. Not too mention a much higher crime rate, traffic issues, too hot as hell to do much of the year, etc. Some of the best times I have had have been in Carson City.......For example, Nevada Day. I have traveled quite a bit and had a blast celebrating that......more so than partying on Bourbon Street in New Orleans even !
