Review of Greensbo,

Pros and Cons
Star Rating - 11/19/2014
I am going to give you a real view of Greensboro, NC. Many of the reviews on here claim that the city is either good or bad, but there are aspects of both. I have lived in Greensboro now for 10 years. I have lived up North and down South. So I am not bias one way or the other.

Pros of living in Greensboro:

Healthcare - The healthcare here is excellent. I have met and been treated by some of the best medical professionals that I have seen in my life.

Colleges and Universities -I have researched many of the schools here in Greensboro and have found their programs to be affordable and credible.

Cost of living - If you are looking for somewhere to live, where you can get a nice place on the low end, then this is the place for you.

Dining - The city has numerous places to treat your taste buds to. Chain and local restaurants offer great dishes.

Cons of living in Greensboro:

Jobs - if you don't have a good paying job lined up; this may not be the place for you. Low paying service jobs that will not keep up with your monthly bills. Job postings are numerous, but when you apply for a job; a month latter you will see that same posting again unfilled. Employers waste your time and gas calling you in for interviews; then lie and say they will call you back.

People - This is from my personal point-of-view and I cannot speak for others on this point. This also ties into the job situation. First of all, racism can be found all around the world, but as a black male I get some uneasy looks if I ask a Caucasian manager if they are hiring. I have lived in many major cities and small towns, but I have never seen a place with so many unfriendly people. There are exceptions, but in my opinion this is not a city of people who care for their fellow neighbors.

Artist - This is not the place for you if you are any type of artist. Go some where else.

Crime - Greensboro does have its unfortunate situations at times; just as any other large size city would have.

Recreation - I'm sorry, but I don't want to spend 2 to 3 hours driving to the mountains or the beach. I want my recreational activities in my city.

Events - Greensboro is a great city to have monthly events and festivals, but for some reason officials do not utilize Greensboro like they should.

Here is what I think if you are looking to move to Greensboro. If you have a good paying job lined up, want to be close to college and universities, want a quiet place to live, and decent shopping and eating; then move to Greensboro. Even better for retirees.

If you are young, a artist, looking for a city with a great job market with better pay and advancement opp., looking for a non-stop night life, or a place to mingle with individuals in your community, a city that host multiple events every year; then don't move to Greensboro, NC.

Darren thank you for your honest perception and review of Greensboro. I think I can receive your insight more than the other comments on here because you offered both sides. I am an artist. I'm single with college age sons and we are black. I have a good friend who lives there and she's from Chicago. She doesn't get out and about like I do AND she's married so she doesn't concern herself with the same things that concern me like socializing (looking for a mate). I'm an artist and I have a newly started business that caters to party promotions. I live in Baltimore where we have a great baseball and football team (I'm a HUGE fan) and Greensboro lacks both. The nightlife in Greensboro doesn't look like it's ready for me. Haha. I've been down there at least 7 times to visit with different friends and it really is a cozy place but for retirees or couples/families who are settled with good jobs. I would get bored and I think my love life would be non existent. I think I just made my decision. Lol

i have a friend who moved to greensboro from greenwich, ct. I am looking also in north carolina, but he is claiming greensboro is for me. the crime rate is very high, and if he meets someone from the north they are ok, but the southerners cannot get over their hatred of the north. so I am also looking outside of a city. I am from a suburb and like the quiet life. where I am now is not it.

I feel like this review is kind of an oxymoron. What person with a high paying job wants to be around colleges lol? Most grown adults dont care about university life after a certain age. You dont need to be in a town with non-stop nightlife to be happy. You do however need a town with a diversity in lifestyle and an economy to where people can make a decent living. Greensboro does a bunch of stuff that doesnt really cater to anyone it seems like.
