I've lived in Hidden Valley Lake for the last 5 years and if I had it to do over again I would not have moved here. There's hardly any stores and the 1 grocery store here , Hardester's is outrageously expensive. It's dusty and way too hot in the summer and the health care here is mediocre at best. If you need to go shopping for clothes or such things it's about a 2 hour drive to get there. Unless you want to drive up to Clearlake which is full of drug addicts and homeless people. And there is still no good shopping there. If you have children there is absolutely nothing for the kids to do and no job opportunities for teens. For that matter there is barely any work here so therefore you have to commute and hour to three hours away for work. Also, tons of horrible wild fires every year to the point where insurance companies don't want to cover you. The other thing is if you're "not from here", forget it, you're basically an outcast.
