We love Florence! - 4/9/2018
My husband and I moved here about eight years ago as retirees and bought a home right away. Florence is a small town with a growing population. We both love the mild coastal climate, the natural beauty, the wildlife, the abundance of volunteer and recreational opportunities, the great choice of good restaurants, wonderful small shops on Bay Street in Old Town, entertainment at the Events Center and Three Rivers Casino, and the convenience of having a large city, Eugene, just a little over an hour away for additional shopping and entertainment. Green, but wet! - 8/16/2017
Prices are cheaper than California. The coast is mostly retiree's! Average age is 57, so its a retirement mecca. 71 iches of rain is hard to get use too, but it is very moderate, with less than an inch of snow. Average high in summer is 68 degrees and to locals 75-80 degrees is a heat wave. 3 Grocery stores limits shopping, Fred Meyer, Safeway & Grocery Outlet. West of Highway 101 can be 5-10 degrees cooler in summer. Allergies are a mixed bag, dry spells and wind can increase airborne pollen, rain holds it down. Its a tourist town, but active on weekends, year round. Its 60 miles to Eugene, via Hwy. 126. Serious airport is in Eugene. Wild life includes bears and this year cougars. Peace Health is a good hospital, 21 bed, small but old age and ATV accidents are the more common reasons to go there. Lots of Californian's come and last a few years. The rain and lack of places to go creates a turn around. If you like nature, you will never run out of places to Read More
