Montague County is located in North Central Texas just west of the Red River on US Highway 82 with parts extending into Cooke County too. It was established in 1857 and today it has a population close to 19 thousand people spread throughout a terrain ranging from flat prairies to dense forests serving as home to numerous wildlife species plus rare native plants used for medicinal purposes by local tribes before colonization began. The county seat is Montague where visitors can find landmarks such as Widow Hill Cemetery—one of oldest cemeteries in area or take on outdoor activities like camping at Bray Mayes Park or fishing at Lake Nocona Reservoir which provides great opportunities for bass anglers among others.
