An Outstanding Place to Live While I was born and raised here, I have subsequently lived in the Portland and Seattle areas. We chose to retire in Walla Walla as the cost of living is far more reasonable and there is a solid cultural climate. There is live theater and a surprisingly good live music scene. Since moving here, we have seen the following in concert: Judy Collins, Peter Frampton, Foo Fighters, Mumford and Sons, Psychadelic Furs, Maclamore, Dawes, Zac Brown... with Steve Miller, Oasis, and Chicago scheduled. No problem ever getting tickets. There is a nice multiplex movie theater, quaint downtown, and beautiful parks. Two ski resorts are within forty-five minutes. Mountain hiking/riding trails are within thirty minutes. The country roads are well maintained and perfect for motorcycling. The wineries are numerous and very nice. There are at least a dozen restaurants equal to the best anywhere. The community college is ranked best in the nation. Whitman College (liberal) and University of Walla Walla (conservative) offer their own array of cultural events. Public schools are well supported, with fine facilities and reputation. There is a generous giving spirit. The Latin/Mexican-American population is significant, adding positive cultural diversity.
