12/6/2018May I suggest the land of 10,000 lakes? Minnesota. You are right on about outsiders not welcome: they might as well hang up a sign on every porch in town. Hopefully, you have met some nice people by now who were welcoming to your family, but hang on to them because you will not find many more. This is an area where falseness is the rule of the day. Put on a smile. Be polite. Say, "yes, ma`am." "Yes, sir." And as soon as the person is out of earshot, the truth comes out. Be careful with the local men too. They have eyes for women at all times, with or without their wives at their side.

12/6/2018Many people come to this area to open a business. Most of them end up packing up and closing down a few months or a year later. There are some people who like sushi here, but very few in the local population. These people are set in their ways, and their ways of eating include eating fried chicken, pork in all varieties (pulled pork, barbecue,...), fried okra, and other strictly regional favorites. These eating habits were established from the history of this area. Area residents are not concerned with healthy eating, and are not accustomed to change. In fact, they firmly resist change in any and all forms. There was a restaurant that offered sushi as a main selection on the 123 bypass. It was there a few years, then shut down. The "Japanese" food offered at express take out places is not authentic. They give you really greasy cubed chicken in an imitation teriyaki sauce and call it chicken teriyaki. I wouldn`t want your business to fail, so I implore you to look for a better town or city.

12/6/2018Totally agree about the burial plots. Most of the high school graduates leave the area upon graduation because they quickly realize there is no future for them here. The area never recovered from the shut-down of the textile mills from the 1960s-1990s. Many locals left the area when they lost those jobs. No large employers have moved into the county to replace what was lost. There is some manufacturing in the form of BASF, Borg-Waner, etc, but not enough to truly provide for long-term employment for young area residents.
If you are looking for stable work, look elsewhere. Far, far away from here.

The bad far, far outweighs the good -
12/6/2018For one thing, the statistics that this website gives are wrong. Allow me to give you a true sense of what Seneca, SC is like. The people who live here are primarily retirees from other states, or people who were born here, went to school here, etc. Those who retire here bring their money with them, and get an over-priced, expensive house, and live at odds with the local society, never to mingle with it. Those who were born here get through high school, find out that the only place to work is in a factory or fast food joint, and either leave the area if they have higher aspirations for their lives, or just conform to what`s here. Many of the people who retire here learn after a few years that it wasn`t what they thought it to be, put the house on the market, and leave. Many of the women never worked a job, and depend on their husbands/boyfriends; however, this is less true of the new coming-of-age generation. It is incredibly easy to lose your job, so job security is non-existent (unless you are extremely good at a-- kissing). Racial undertones still highly prevalent, though not admitted, nor discussed. By the way, drugs are a real problem in the area towns.
