Panama City, FL

re:
Beautiful area, but economy and employmen - 3/1/2022
I lived there for about 8 years and the housing market is terribly overpriced. Alot of decent 1 story homes are easily 300,000 or more for something decent. I'm in Ohio now and the housing market is so much cheaper, I could get a newly renovated 2 story home for around 130k, with a basement, a garage, and a decent lawn (usually the poorer neighborhoods go for around 50-60k).

Worst mistake ever - 3/1/2022
I moved here from Akron, OH back in 2007 and was expecting a huge city (similar to Miami), nope, I was wrong. It ended up being more like a backwards redneck town more similar to something you'd find in Alabama. Not much going on here, very isolated. The average education is pretty low too and graduating highschool is a big deal lol. Glad I left. Utilities are high, groceries are high, pay is low. Retail and customer service based jobs make up 98% of the jobs here. If you want to make money, you'd best be a doctor or a lawyer, unless you move down already loaded (but then you'd probably wouldn't be found dead in Panama City and would live in 30-a haha).

Glad to be home - 10/21/2021
I grew up and lived in Akron, OH for a majority of my life, with the exception of living in Panama City, FL for 8 years. The town is pretty decent, affordable utilities, affordable homes, plenty of trails and parks, and so on. Some things have changed, like HighSchools are "community learning centers" now. And my old ACME has gone downhill a tad(but it's been 15 years since I worked there last). The bad thing are the roads and construction. Potholes galore, but that's a common attribute for any city close to the Great Lakes and are affected by the winters and road salt.

I'm glad that I moved back.

Panama City Beach, FL

The West End - 10/21/2021
I lived on the west end of the beach from early 2010 to May 2013 and back then it was quiet, nice, and BackBeach Rd(98) wasn't as congested back then as it is now with the over abundance of traffic lights at every single intersection. Back then, there were maybe 3 traffic lights I had to go through from the bridge to the west end (One at 79, one at Pier Park's main entrance, and another closer to the bridge before the golfing range). Now the traffic is abysmal all times of day especially during tourist season(90% of the time).I'm glad I lived there when I did because rent was cheap before they price gouged everything. It is also nice they have a conservation park behind LaQuinta Hotel. In summary, the west end of PCB is nice to live in if you can afford it(Whisper Dunes is a vey nice community) since you'd be away from most of the traffic and still close to Destin. The bad thing is driving into the City(Panama City) especially during the day since it'll take roughly 30-45 minutes due to traffic.

Living here
- 10/21/2021
I knew a friend that dated and married a guy from DeFuckiak Springs and he was the most inbred, toothless, white trash person there lol. I've driven through the town as fast as I could (Luckily it's such a small damn town, it took me like 5 minutes haha). Nothing there but Wal Mart and McDonalds....and maybe a Walgreens.

0 stars for a 0 class redneck town - 10/21/2021
I've had to drive through this town on several road trip and there is nothing to do here except Wal Mart. No Class, no education, no worth while attractions. Just a redneck town in the middle of nowhere and the

15 years after your post and it's still the same haha. Maybe they added a Walgreens since then haha.

half dead people

I agree with you 100%. This place is a depressing red neck town where the average education level is 1st grade. Avoid this town like the plague. I've had to drive through this town when I moved back North and it made me feel so uncomfortable. Just a backwards hick redneck town.

re:
Better wait until hurricane recovery is c - 7/27/2021
I lived there from 2007 to 2008 and then again from 2010-July of 2017. It was decent to live there in short amounts of time. I came from a larger city and missed the outdoor activities and parks. I personally felt very isolated in that city since it pretty much was isolated from any large city (like Cleveland or Atlanta).

Red Neck City, FL - 7/27/2021
If you love bars, trailers, isolation, and generic shopping while feeling depressed then this is the place for you. Panama City has alot of shallow people, most red necks who don't have any education higher than 4th grade, and that they also think they're much better than you. The only way you can actually make money is if you're a lawyer or doctor and the only other jobs are retail and restaurants. The town feels very isolated, no real parks, no entertainment(except a movie theater), no sports venues(you need to travel roughly 4-5 hours to Atlanta to watch a sports game), and so on. Much of the town feels very run down and trashy. The only thing I can say is that if you have lots of money and need a winter home, check out the west end of PCB since there are some decent areas to live.
