St. George, UT

St. George - Filled with Opportunities - 7/7/2017
From world-class natural vistas to pleasant hometown entertainment venues, St. George is filled with opportunities for young and old. Breathtaking Snow Canyon State Park and Zion National Park are within minutes. Day-trips to Grand Canyon North Rim and Bryce Canyon National Park are the highlights of an area filled with nature trails, slot canyons, reservoirs for boating, and pleasantly cool summer mountain meadows. Winter skiing is just an hour away at nearby Brian Head. Tuachan Center for the Performing Arts boasts summer "Broadway in the Canyon," nearby Cedar City's annual Shakespearean Festival and numerous civic theater venues provide quality live entertainment including concerts. The annual city arts festival compliments the many galleries as well at the year-round arts center at Kayenta. Other annual events include the St. George Marathon, Iron-Man competition, Fourth of July Parade and fireworks concert and many others. Historic downtown includes quaint shopping, eclectic eateries, and beautiful sculpture displays. Fabulous parks, miles of bike paths, splash pads, children's railroad at Tonaquint Park, Childrens' Museum, dinosaur trackway museum, amusement centers, recreation centers and pools provide a variety of offerings for individuals and families.

I grew up in Southern California and Northern New Jersey. We've traveled to 49 of the 50 states. There are many beautiful and pleasant locations in America. St. George surely ranks relatively high among communities where living day-to-day can be fulfilling. Most months of the year the temperatures and weather are mild. Mid-June through mid-September generally reach high temperatures above 100, but it cools off at night. I enjoy an hour bike ride most every day throughout the year, we daily walk or hike year-round through the beautiful red rock trails nearby. The local bus system serves the entire city. Shuttle service to Las Vegas or Salt Lake are frequent and affordable. The St. George Municipal Airport provides jet service to Denver, Phoenix, and Salt Lake. Intermountain Health Care maintains a large well-equipped hospital and adjacent medical services. The local state university offers ever-expanding four-year programs.
There are multiple opportunities for community volunteer work as well as service jobs. Corporate employment is minimal.
We have found the culture to be welcoming. Neighbors have moved here from all over the country seeking mild winters and affordable living. Generally people in St. George are friendly and helpful. We feel relatively safe here and have found reliable and honest service providers from plumbing to dentistry. If you want big city amenities and lots of cultural diversity, St. George is a nice place to visit. If you are comfortable with a somewhat slower-paced lifestyle including virtually every national-brand restaurant and retail outlet close at hand. St. George is a great place to live, filled with opportunities.
