12/6/2006I grew up on a lake near Spooner. Overall it's an o.k. place to live, if you like trees, fields, and cows... Good hunting, fishing, water sports...Winter is a total drag...The town its self is basically dead, little if any economic growth or jobs, of course Wal Mart is coming, so jobs there may be available...mom and pop stores will be down the tubes.. Non existent night life or activities... Lake shore property has sky rocketed over the past 10 years due to the influx of baby boomers from the Minneapolis/St.Paul area buying 2nd lake homes/cabins. The Spooner School system is average at best,...and continues to insist on raising taxes to build new schools.... If you're over 65, a good quiet place to retire, younger people stay away...you'll be bored out of your mind!
