Temecula, CA

Best large city in the area. w/ Gridlock traffic - 12/23/2018
Temecula is really pretty nice place, it has everything you need and most of it has modern buildings. They generally take care of it, so it looks fresh. Compared to other places around, Temecula is the most desirable place to be. All of the other cities around can be really nasty. Murrietta, Hemet, Lake Elsinore are all just nasty compared to Temecula. South of Temecula, it gets really bad. San Marcos, Vista, Escondido. Lots of Apartments and poor Hispanics in those areas. Fallbrook is the only small town that is decent thats in the area. Here is the negative about Temecula. People and traffic. Putting aside the fact that the I-15 is Hell, the Temecula main streets are also jammed often. But hey, you chose SoCal and thats what you get. Bottom line: Best larger city in the area, if you like this area. (I personally liked smaller Fallbrook better.) Weather is a bit more extreme than say Fallbrook. Hotter highs and lower lows. Had a big snow storm awhile back that was a Super rare event.

Fallbrook, CA

Sleepy San Diego county town is a gem. - 3/29/2015
We have lived here for 15 years and have found this to be a very interesting place. It's a place you generally you do not pass through, so for the most part it is not a transient location. Due to it's location tucked back around the South East corner of Camp Pendelton, it has a permanent buffer zone of open space. If you need your space and still want to live in San Diego area, you might like this location. We are about 20 min from Temecula and 45 min from San Diego. So the price you pay to live in this area is bit more drive time, but not too much more. Good people here and we have a lot less crime than our neighboring cities, Oceanside, and Vista. Although we still have about 700 or so gang bangers, they "generally" are not a problem for locals. Sheriff keeps them on a very short leash. Fallbrook has a very small downtown that rolls up the sidewalks when darkness comes. Some negatives about Fallbrook are: Camp Pendleton noise at times. Artillery fire can be really loud at times. Window shaking. Traffic in and out of the base, early morning and early eve, to and from I-15 can clog up Mission Rd. The apartments off of Clemmens, Alturus, Ammunition streets are full of localized issues. Stay away from this area. Overall if Fallbrook continues the trend of building fancy expensive homes, this area will slowly push out the riff raff and will only get better. A great place to retire if you want to stay in this area. Fallbrook is about 10 degrees milder on temps vs Temecula, so thats a plus.
