2/18/2012The Raleigh and surrounding areas are very nice. Raleigh is a larger city with a small town feel. I live in north Raleigh and never have to travel more than 5 miles to get to everything I need. It is like a small town within a larger city. It has a lot to offer and I have always been happy here.

2/18/2012I agree wholeheartedly. I lived there in my mid to upper 30's and it was like a horrible nightmare. There were mountains hike, that I loved, but that is where my love affair of Blairsville ends. There is NOTHING to do there and I had to drive 20 plus miles just to get to a Walmart for toilitries. To eat out at a decent restaurant or shopping all the way to Atlanta. I think for elders this might be a great place, but for anyone that enjoys eating out, shopping or anyone that has children, this is not the place for you. There is a very high number of HIV in the area, if I am correct it was one of the highest in the country a few years back. I would be frightened to raise a teen there. And two women have mysteriously disappeared from the immed. area in the last few years and I had a close call myself while out on my daily run. So it is not the innocent town it appears to be on the surface. I lasted 1 year there, and welcomed civilization back into my world when I left. Oh also...there are zero jobs there and the people are slow to warm to "new folks" on their turf.
