Leeds, UT

Decent place - 5/28/2018
I've lived in Leeds for almost 15 years. While the surrounding area is beautiful and Leeds is an extremely safe community, the planning commission (on which I served) and the town council refuse to let any growth happen in terms of amenities. Also, if you aren't LDS, good luck making friends. I have no trouble making friends anywhere else... but have tried for 15 years here to no avail. It's a very exclusionary community because any social event in town is always somehow tied to "The Church." It's unfortunate.

The cost of living in the Leeds area (Washington County, UT) has become very high and jobs are hard to come by unless you work in construction, retail, or restaurant/hospitality. Washington, UT and St. George, UT are only about 12 - 15 minutes from Leeds to you can hit Costco, Walmart and the restaurants pretty easily and it's a straight shot down I-15 to get there. There aren't a lot of restaurant chains, but it's definitely better than when we moved here. At least what is here is open on Sundays now. When we first moved here, you would be hard-pressed to find anything open on Sundays. That has changed significantly. If you aren't into hiking/biking/golfing or if you don't have quads and a camp trailer, you'd be hard-pressed to find things to do. I, unfortunately, have very bad back problems which have left one of my legs and foot numb and therefore have lost the ability to do those things that I so very much enjoyed. It has left me with very little to do for fun.

My house is on the market and I'm getting ready to move back to a crime-ridden Albuquerque to be close to my aging mom and other family and friends. I will miss the quiet of Leeds and I will most definitely miss the safety of our little town... right around a 0% crime rate. Can't really beat that. If there is crime, it is usually teenagers up to no good who vandalize things at the town park. Otherwise, feel free to leave your car unlocked, your doors unlocked and all your windows wide open and be assured nobody will bother anything. (My former neighbors used to leave their keys in their cars with windows down... nobody ever touched them.) Best wishes if you move here.
