re: Owosso Has NOTHING... - 7/26/2007 -
3/29/2015The person who wrote the above comment needs therapy and also needs to get his or her facts straight - and the facts are that Owosso High School is a U. S. News & World report academic silver medalist school; the Owosso High School Marching Band has won #1 rankings at band festivals for almost sixty straight years; Owosso's Lincoln High School was the Michigan Alternative School of the Year in 2009 out of over 380 schools; Owosso Memorial Healthcare has won many awards for excellence; Owosso has far more parkland than the average for American cities and the parks are beautiful. Furthermore, Owosso a stellar BMX park, a skate park, an ice skating rink, an indoor roller skating rink; over a dozen tennis courts, several playgrounds, several miles of walking and biking trails including an elevated walkway, five golf courses within fifteen minutes, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, indoor and outdoor car racing, a magnificent theater with live plays, a multiplex movie theater, great eateries, live music every weekend at several venues, free summertime outdoor concerts, constant events, the state's largest functioning steam engine locomotive which draws people from around the world, museums, a Carnegie Library, two newspapers, and it's a Tree City USA community. Owosso also has a low crime rate, safe streets, it's unemployment rate has been declining for a several years, and the city has the friendliest people on earth. As for the comment about a high crime rate, consider this: there are people of all ages walking, jogging, skateboarding and scootering around town all hours of the day and night, and there isn't a single gas station in Owosso that requires customers to pay before pumping. As for manufacturing jobs in Owosso, they have been increasing during the last several years. However, because manufacturing has been in decline nationwide, maybe the above writer should consider another line of work.

Owosso Is Wonderful! -
6/23/2008Owosso is the most wonderful city in the nation.
I have traveled the world, lived large cities all over the Midwest and South, and have lived in some of the most beautiful, high-energy and exclusive cities in the nation - including Santa Barbara, Seattle, Scottsdale, Boca Raton, Fort Worth, etc. However, although those places were wonderful for many reasons, Owosso is the best.
First of all, there is good energy here, which is evidenced by the fact that the city has probably produced more people who have made national impact than anywhere else in the nation. Furthermore, and possibly because of a combination of its size and the frequent contact between its citizens, there is a friendship and comraderie in Owosso that is unparalled, and newcomers with positive energy are welcomed with open arms.
Owosso is safe, the winters aren't as cold as they used to be, and from early spring to late fall Owosso is full of people walking, jogging and bicycling throughout its beautiful, lush and tree-lined neighborhoods. The city is well-designed, it has everything necessary to do business, and it has everything necessary for a good life. In ten minutes, you can be anywhere in the city, and in thirty minutes you can be at an international airport. It's a small city surrounded by farmland, yet it's one with a cosmopolitan feel.
Owosso has restaurants ranging from fast food to local diners to fine dining establishments - and there are lots of watering holes that are full of characters. Some of the best laughs you could ever have will be had in Owosso. It truly is a special place, and I'm glad, lucky and proud to be here.
