Kendall, NY

Growing up in Kendall NY - 10/10/2009
I grew up in Kendall, NY. Though I now live in Rochester, NY, Kendall will always hold a special place in my heart. Kendall is a very small lake community, with a small elementary school and a Junior/Senior High school. The town itself is not something out of a Norman Rockwell picture, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. The town is roughly a mile and half from Lake Ontario and not far from Route 18 and Route 104; two major routes cutting through upstate NY. I basically grew up in fairy tale existence, with large acres of woods on all sides of me I was free to use my imagination to its fullest extent. I thank my Mom for instilling in me the thrill of adventure and living in Kendall sure fostered that. With nothing really to do but read, write, explore and truly have a childhood filled with little turmoil and much joy. Today Kendall boasts the highest graduation rate in Orleans County, though its one of the smallest school districts. Being so close to Lake Ontario has helped it remain peaceful and serene. It its a quick 45 minute drive to the city of Rochester, NY, and only a little over and hour to Buffalo, NY. I grew up on Petersmith Rd, which I consider one of the nicest roads in Kendall. The road starts at route 1o4 and ends at Lake Ontario. With several horse farms, and a gardening nursery on the road it is still to this day very hard to find land or houses for sale. Though in this moment I have no desire to return to Kendall, I do recommend it to those who are looking for a small community or a place to raise a family.
